Fractured Stillness

Fractured Stillness explores the uncontrollable and disorienting complexities of anxiety and depression through the experimental process of film souping. Submerging film in various chemicals ahead of exposure creates unpredictable distortions that mirror the unpredictability within the mind. The altered emulsions—stained, scarred, and fragile—become metaphors for the ways mental health leaves its imprint on perception and memory. Each image highlights how anxiety and depression can overpower a beautiful day, natural environment, or scene.

This process embodies a dialogue between control and surrender. The film’s fragility contrasts with the resilience of the image that emerges, reflecting the tension between breaking apart and holding oneself together. By embracing the unknown and imperfections of the medium, I seek to render an emotional landscape that words often fail to describe.

This work is as much about expressing vulnerability as it is about seeking connection—an invitation for the viewer to see the world, and themselves, through a fractured lens.
